Mashhad is located in the north eastern part of Khorasan Razavi state.Its area is about
270 square kilometers. The population of this city is about two million and five hundred
thousand.
Mashhad is located in between the northern 10/36 to 23/36 longitude and 28/59 to 43/59
eastern latitude. The average height is about 1,050 meters above sea level
(maximum of 1150 meters and minimum of 950 meters) and the prevailing wind direction
is from west to east. According to the existence of Imam Reza holy shrine and the other
pilgrimages and tourist attractions, Mashhad is hosting over 20 million pilgrims each year.

Mashhad tourist sites:
Torghabeh:
Torghabe is located 16 kilometers far from southwest of Mashhad. The village is in the
mountainous area with numerous gardens and a river passes along it. In this section there
is a beautiful public park. Residents hand- made ​​baskets are considered as the souvenir
of Torghabeh.

Shandiz:
This place is located at 38 kilometers southwest of Mashhad. In this mountainous region,
There are many fountains and garden. Sheepskin embroidered is considered as one of the
handcrafts in this region. Ski equipment and site is available around this area.

Akhlamad:
Akhlamad is located in Mashhad-Ghochan (Asian) road at a distance of 84 kilometers far
from Mashhad. The distance between sidetrack and the Asian road is about 16 kilometers. 
At the end of its river, there are 2 waterfalls where one of them is 23 meters hight.
The distance from Akhlamad village to the waterfall is about 3 kilometers; Walking is the
only option for travelling this road. Akhlamad’s numerous gardens and fruits 
(especially apple) are famous in Mashhad.

Golestan dam:
At a distance of 4 kilometers from Torghabeh, Golestan old dam is located on the
Golestan River, the length of this dam is 120 meters, its height is 14 meters, the base 
width is 28 and crest width is 14 meters. This dam is constructed around 400 to 500 years
ago in the Theymorian period and has been reconstructed in recent years. In spring, 
the height of water increases and creates a Very interesting landscape.

Mellat Park:
This park is located at the west of Mashhad and the verge of VakilAbad boulevard.
Its area is 720,000 square meters. This park is considered as one of the largest and the
most beautiful parks of Mashhad. Amusement park and other facilities for children are
available. In this park there is a mosque for travelers to pray and also a beautiful pool,
numerous trees and flowers create a Favorable Atmosphere.

Koohsangi:
This park is located at the south west of the city in a street with the same name.
Koohsangi which is created on the sidelines of high mountains is one of the oldest summer
regions of Mashhad.
Koohsangi has many facilities like restaurants, swimming pool and Handicraft stores.

VakilAbad Promenade:
VakilAbad is one of the oldest and the most beautiful Promenades of Mashhad which is
located at the end of VakiAbad boulevard. This place has a beautiful garden with old
trees and a seasonal river, moreover, a big amusement park in the rocky hill nearby is
constructed there, which is unique in its kind.

Ferdowsi Cemetery:
Cultural complex of Ferdowsi cemetery is located at a distance of twenty kilometers from
the city of Mashhad to Ghochan. By passing eastern side of the garden and the cemetery,
and travelling 28 km on the road (which ends up to the present Mashhad-Kalat road), you
can reach the Pazh village which is the birth place of the universally famous poet
Abolghasem Ferdowi.  Nowadays, this village is very small and ruined. According to the
Archaeological evidence, this is an historical place which is constructed by an Iranian
athlete whose name was Toos in the Mythical period. The poet of great epics of Iran is 
also buried in this place.
